Classic Sausage and Peppers: A Flavorful Italian-American Dish Recipe

  • 1 lb Italian sausage links
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausage links and cook until they are browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove the sausages from the skillet and set them aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil. Stir in the sliced bell peppers, onion, and minced garlic. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Add the diced tomatoes, dried oregano, and dried basil to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
  4. Return the sausages to the skillet and stir them into the vegetable mixture. Cook for another 5 minutes, until the sausages are heated through.
  5. Serve the sausage and peppers hot, on their own or over cooked pasta or rice if desired.
